About the Campaign
Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) created the March For Meals
campaign in 2000 to call attention to the problem of senior hunger in America. Since then the number of programs and partners participating, and the national attention it has received during the month of March, has grown each year. The slogan, “so no senior goes hungry”®, is the rallying cry of the campaign.
Senior Services of Albany joins MOWAA in this national effort to end senior hunger in America by 2020. We believe that this initiative to unite Meals on Wheels programs will improve the visibility of Senior Nutrition Programs nationwide.
This year, Boston Market, IHOP Restaurants and the Hidden Cafe joins Senior Services of Albany in this effort. We encourage everyone to patronize these "senior friendly" businesses that have come forward in support of our senior nutrition programs. Please see below for details.
Mayors For Meals
In 2006, MOWAA introduced a new component of the March For Meals campaign called
Mayors For Meals. On a designated day in March, mayors and local elected officials across the country deliver meals with their MOW program to seniors in their community. This past year MOWAA set a new record when 1,552 U.S. mayors delivered meals for their local MOW programs. Not only did Mayors For Meals 2009 make a difference on a local level, but the national event also garnered attention across the country.
This year, Mayors For Meals will take place on March 24, 2010. The Hon. Gerry Jennings, Mayor of the City of Albany will be joining SSA's Meals on Wheels staff delivering meals to homebound senior residents in Albany. |
